Born into a family of highly interested music lovers, Shruthi’s Carnatic music lessons began early under Vidushi Madhavi Rajagopalan, an accomplished musician in Bengaluru. Simultaneously, she also learnt Devaranamas and Bhajans from well-known vocalist and mrdangam artist, Vidushi Ranganayaki Rajan.
 

During this period, she participated and bagged top prizes in numerous competitions at the city, state and national levels. She also gave solo performances and teamed up with her sister, Shriya Raj, for duets. Her performances have been featured at several prestigious venues including the Bangalore Gayana Samaja, Indian Institute of World Culture and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. She completed her Vidwat in Carnatic vocal conducted by the Karnataka Secondary Education Board as well.
 

Shruthi’s academic pursuits brought her to the United States of America in 2003. After completing her Masters degree in Biomedical Science, she pursued full-time jobs in the field of biomedical devices and engineering. Her music however continued to flourish alongside, and she got opportunities to perform at several venues across USA, including the Cleveland Tyagaraja Aradhana.
 

In 2009, she went to the renowned Vidushi Kiranavali Vidyasankar for tutelage. She has acquired a lot of valuable pieces in her repertoire, honed her creative skills to advanced levels, and become keenly aware of all the fine-tuned values of Carnatic music and performance.
 

Over the last several years, Shruthi has performed at several cities in the United States such as Dallas, Chicago, Buffalo, Raleigh, Philadelphia, Kansas City and Indianapolis. She has additionally been invited to give talks and lecture-demonstrations on Carnatic music at the Department of Ethnomusicology and Archives of Traditional Music at Indiana University. Providing lead vocals for quite a few Bharatanatyam performances has enriched her musical experience in significant ways.
 

Shruthi has also embarked on her journey as a teacher and has been guiding many students. Her collection of compositions by the Trinity and other pre-eminent composers includes Varnas, Krtis, Dasarapadas, Vachanas, Padams, Javalis, Bhajans and Tillanas. The many years of experience she has gained as a student and performer is enabling her to give tailored guidance to the diverse students she comes across.
 

Recently, she tuned the Vishnu Sahasranama as a ragamalika in its entirety for which she was awarded the title of Sangeetha Nipuna by Praapthi Events. She currently resides in Singapore.
